I run a few blogs and with having blogs it's essential to use social marketing. Will post up a few tips later today/tomm. when I can compile them.

Only one used by me is Stumbleupon.
Which i find brings the best results if
1. A Story is submitted
2. You yourself are good stumbler

If not, only a few visitors come by on a weekly basis, 3-4 maybe

At least thats how i think it works out to get constant traffic.

Like everything its a long run.
Stumble many Sites and you will constantly get subscribers / friends etc. More subscriber, as well as more stumbles is basicly like spreading the word. Your profile Pic will be seen more often through the network.

Ofc it aswell help if some big profile stumble your site, with many subscribers. Thats nice traffic for sure, but it only last 1 day or max. 2 days. Additionally these guy likely will not come across your site


I will start now stumbleing Pages of my Interest to target these People. Will see how it works out. Hopefully good.

I have a friend who raves about twitter and the effects on her business - here is the info she sent, but haven't tried it myself - she is into the 'green' scene so it relates to her area of expertise.

Go to www.search.twitter.com <http://www.search.twitter.com/>
Here you can enter a key word e.g. “organic” to find who is tweeting about organic.
Go to their profile and if you like what they are tweeting about, follow them!
Most people will follow back… so that way you start to grow your list of followers –
i.e. potential “prospects” for your business.

Use a similar strategy in Facebook – find groups about your interest e.g. “design”; then invite folks from those groups to be your friend with a message such as “Hi Adam, I see you are a member of X-Design group. I am looking to network with like minded folks…”

The above seems a bit stalkerish/spammy to me and I am still trying to get to grips with the twitter concept - definitely haven't tweeted anything, more an observer.

Personally I am more involved with facebook (more for the social scene and keeping up with old friends). I have never done any paid advertising, but I do have a company 'page' with personal recommendations/testimonials from some of my clients that I have designed forums for - it certainly hasn't brought in any business, but I also know that I haven't used it to its full potential.

Good marketing with them seems to be a full time job within itself. I think I am lucky that I have a bunch of younger people that are members,and know how to use these things

I tried a few different methods with twitter and it was pretty clear which worked and which didnt. with twitter.com/osempire I followed those I knew by name which was very few... only 3 or 4 people I looked for actually had twitter accounts... none were very active.

On another twitter account I did the "search and follow" stalker method natz mentioned in her post. this without a doubt worked the best. I followed 130 people and after a few days had 60 followers back. not bad.

finally on twitter.com/animerankings I mass emailed my 1200 topsite members inviting them to follow. Then followed some folks who were following some twitter accounts similar to mine. This seemed to bring a very nice balance of following to followers.

The benefit for me is I have automated my twitter accounts so I dont actually 'tweet' anything, they sit on 'auto pilot' sending out updates several times a day. Sound spammy to me... and I'm pretty sure it is.. but that seems to be the nature of twitter.. acceptable spam.

I agree on that, following people about the theme of your twitter account seem to work best.
For me its a 3 - 1 ratio, added a lot off inactive accounts i think.

You guys are on the right path regarding Twitter, although...

There are certain types of software, that will use the twitter search based on your specified keywords, then auto-follow these people.

This is much faster then following them manually, is it morally wrong? You decide, however at the end of the day you will get traffic.

There are a lot of software's that do this, but from what I've seen is they are not freeware. So I personally recommend you to build your own script to do this(I'd chose Perl.)

I recently did a translation for one of those Softwares, Hummingbird.
Nearly 200$, way to expensive.

My husband has started marketing a couple of our forums on twitter and the response of people starting to follow us is pretty impressive. It hasn't made any impact on our membership figures yet, but it's a pretty cool way to spam.

People only start to spam...Add this guy..add that guy. Follow me here, follow me there. Post thousand messages a minute etc etc

Hmmmm... Dint you know about Twitter and Facebook marketing???? My god mark you are missing huge number of traffic to you website then.

I honestly dont know about stumbleupon but facebook and twitter works like CrAzY. Try it once. When compared to all the three, Facebook is one of the awesome networking site which I had ever seen.

I use Facebook and get tons of traffic from there I have a fan page and also use paid ads. But most of my traffic comes from the fan page and followers. I do have a twitter acct just havent really gotten it set up yet.

If I were to try out social media, I think I'd use a combination of facebook and twitter, at the very least. People have grown used to looking for facebook and twitter pages aside from a main website so as long as I keep up relevant and interesting content on all these sites I think it would be really effective.
