How to learn Javascript fast and effective to make use in business website?

My intention is to learn Javascript to apply to commercial websites such as building the "pop up" or pull down menu upon mouse interaction, changing the color of text upon mouse in, out etc.

What's your suggestion(s) ?

Thanks!

Honestly, don't waste your time learning Javascript as it is only a Client Side Language.

But what I will recommend is for you to learn AJAX, which is known as Javascript on Steroids. It is very, very powerful and cool... as it can communicate with the server without even reloading a page.

It's much easier (and recommended) to learn AJAX after you already know JavaScript. Why? Because AJAX stands for Asynchronous JavaScript and XML. The name say it all!

Yeah, I contradicted myself there. But you can still do alot of AJAX with basic basic javascript knowledge using libraries such as prototype and scriptapulous

Very true, but often times when you're developing large projects, it is much faster to use a library or framework to make developing more rapid rather than writing hundred lines of code.

This only applies to certain situations, I am not one of those people who uses other peoples codes... for the most part I prefer to write all my own code.

And when you'll need to adjust a snippet/library/framwork, how are you gona do it if you don't learn JavaScript (and AJAX) before?

Guys! Don't skip the lerning steps! They are the most important!

Javascript isn't hard to interpret as long as you have basic programming skills.

Sure you are right, don't skip the learning steps. I didn't mean to imply that, I just meant to say if you plan on learning Javascript, make sure to move onto AJAX as it can do so much more.

Do you have a programming background? Are you interested in becoming a really excellent programmer? If not, it might be more efficient to just hire a programmer by the project when you need code.
